Question

give any two difference between sigma and pi bond

Open in App
Solution

1. A sigma bond is formed by the axial overlapping of atomic orbitals of the atoms participating in the bonding whereas pi bond is formed by the sideways overlapping of the atomic orbitals of the atoms participating in bonding.

2. The extent of overlapping in sigma bond is larger due to axial overlap than pi bond due to sideways overlap as a result of which sigma bond is stronger than pi bond.
