Question

give one example each and explain how the following metals are obtained from the compounds by the process of reduction

1: Metal A which is low in the activity series of metals

2: Metal B which is in the middle of the activity series of the metals

3: Metal C which is high in the activity series of the metals

Solution

1.metal A which lies low in the activity series accepts electrons most readily

and thus Au which lies low in the series is inert metal .

2. Metal B which is in middle of series is Hydrogen has zero electrode potential or reduction potential.

3. Metal C ( potassium) which is on top of the series has highest reduction potential and thus can not be reduced by any other metal.
