give reason why a person suffering from cold may not enjoy the taste of his food
Most of the taste that we perceive, comes from our sense of smell. Taste buds allow us to perceive only bitter, salty, sweet, and sour flavors. It’s the odour of the food particles that give us most of our taste sensation. When we eat food the adour of the food molecules travels to the olfactory receptor cells at the top of nasal cavity, just beneath the brain through the passage between nose and mouth. During common cold, the mucous of the nose becomes thick that blocks this passage, so odour and air molecules can’t reach the olfactory receptor cells. Thus our brain does not receive the signal to identify the odour. Thus whatever we eat, it tastes much the same and we do not enjoy the taste of the food.
