give reasons:
(1) AlCl3 is a poor conductor of electricity in molten state.
(2) AlF3 is a high melting solid whereas SiF4 is a gas.
1)Aluminium chloride change their structure from ionic to covalent when the solid turns to a liquid or vapour. So in case of liquid AlCl3 which is covalent in nature does not contain free Al3+ or Cl- ion to conduct electricity.
2) AlF3 is an ionic solid and they are well packed in crystal lattice so it need high amount of energy to break the lattice hence having high melting point. On the other hand SiF4 is a covalent compound and there are only weak van der Waal's forces among its molecules that is why it is gas.
