Question

Give reasons to explain why it takes longer to dry wet clothes in humid weather.

Open in App
Solution

Humidity is the amount of water vapour present in air. The air around us cannot hold more than a definite amount of water vapour at a given temperature. If the amount of water in air is already high, the rate of evaporation decreases.

Now on a humid day, the air already has sufficient amount of water vapour present. As a result, the rate of evaporation decreases and hence it takes longer to dry wet clothes.
