Question

gravitational force on an object on an imaginary planet is half of that of the gravitational force on same body on earth. Find:
(i) the vallue of acceleration due to gravity on this planet and
(ii) wieht of an object of mass 50kg on that planet [ take 'g' earth= 10m/s^2]

Solution

(1) As the gravitational force on an object on an imaginary planet is half of that of the gravitational force on same body on earth then the acceleration due to gravity of the same planet will also be half as that of the earth as gravitational force experienced by an object in the vicinity of a planet is equal to the weight of the body on that planet which is nothing but mg and since mass in an inherited property of a body so acceleration changes to half of its value.

(2) Now weight of that body on the same planet will be, W = mg' = 50×(10/2) = 250 N
