Hair on skin is a characteristic feature of all mammals. A hair can be defined as a slender, thread-like outgrowth from a follicle in the skin of mammals. Hair has two distinct parts – root and the shaft. The hair which is seen to us is made up of dead cornified cells. It consists of a shaft that projects above the skin, and a root that is imbedded in the skin. The growth of the hair takes place from the papilla which is the only living part of the hair.
So we can say that except the root part, the hair is non living.
