Question

hoe does frequencyy and wavelenght of light change when:

a)light passes from rarer medium (air) to denser medium(glass)

b)light passes from denser medium (glass )to rarer medium (air)

Solution

As we know refractive index for a medium_1 wrt another medium_2 is equals to the ratio of velocity in the respective mediums:

μ12 = V2/V1

Now μair = 1.0003 and μglass = 1.52

So Since the velocity of light (Refracted Ray) will decrease when moves from air to glass,

For a wave, velocity = λ ν

Also frequency of the wave remains same even it travels from one medium to another since it depends on the source only!

And as far as wavelength is concern i don't think i need to mention more should be a piece of cake for you!
