Question

how are ATP molecules formed during light reaction?

Open in App
Solution

Energy from a high-energy substrate is used to transfer a phosphate group to ADP to form ATP.

  • Light reaction means the reaction dependent on light. Here the pigments absorb energy in the form of photons. Chlorophyll molecules, after being exposed to light gets excited and emits electrons. This electrons travel through the electron transport chain present in chloroplast. ATP is synthesized from ADP.
  • Here photolysis of water takes place. H2O → 2H+ = ½ O2 +2e-
  • It is important to note that oxygen released during photosynthesis.
