The preserved remains of animals or plants of past are termed as fossils. The animals or plants when died got buried under the rock or ice burg and remained undisturbed for millions of years and resulted in formation of fossils. The methods of finding out age of fossils is either carbon dating (rate of radioactive decay) or studying of the layers of rock.
