How are seedless fruits(eg. oranges) grown? Why?

Open in App
Solution

Seedless fruits are produced by Parthenocarpy. It is the production of fruits from unfertilized ovules in plants. The fruits produced by parthenocarpy do not contain seeds. Plant hormones gibberellins promote fruit setting and are used for growing seedless fruits. So gibberellins can be used to induce parthenocarpy and produce seedless fruits like grapes, oranges.

Seedless fruits are produces as the consumption of these fruits is generally easier and more convenient and are considered commercially valuable.
