how are somaclones produced? how are they differ from somatic hybrids?
Single cell or protoplast of plant is cultured to produce individuals. These individuals may show some variations and hence are genetically variable from their parent. These variations produced in expected clones are called as somaclonal variation and the new individuals which are produced are called somaclones.
Protoplasts of two different plant species fuse together to form hybrids. This process is known as somatic hybridisation and the hybrids so produced are known as somatic hybrids.
