The style of clothing in Victorian England depicted the following image of a society:
a. It reflected the image of a society that differentiated between men and women.
b. Norms of clothing stressed on ideals and beliefs of beauty, obedience, submission, docile all these which were associated with girls and were visible in the way they dressed. Girls were dressed in stays and were tightly laced up, they also wore tight fitting corsets​
c. Similarly, men were supposed to be strong, masculine , independent, aggressive, Such notions determined the attitude and cultural beliefs of a society and got reflected in clothing.
c. Differences in clothing also depicted the difference between the social status. As poor could not dress up like richer section of the society.
d. Different classes developed their own dressing sense and styles.
e. Ideals like vulgar, decent, ugly, beautiful, proper , improper determined the cultural attitude of a society.
