Solution

The liquefaction of a gas takes place when the intermolecular forces of attraction become so high that they bind the gas molecules together to form the liquid state. Gas can be liquefied by cooling or by application of pressure or the combined effect of both.
For eg. - Gases like ammonia, sulphur dioxide carbon dioxide could be liquefied by any one of the modes mentioned above. Also it is observed that gases like hydrogen, helium could not be liquefied at room temperature by the application of pressure alone howsoever high it may be.
CNG (compressed natural gas) is used as a fuel and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is supplied at our homes through pipeline for cooking.
The most important advantage of liquefaction of gas is that they can be stored and transported easily.
