The level of water pollution is measured by checking the levels of the various pollutants and there are various instruments used. Some of the methods are:

  • Secchi disks (to measure water clarity)
  • Probes (to detect organic matter and toxic metals)
  • Filters (to detect microorganisms)
  • Nets
  • Gauges and meters.
