how can water pollution be measured?
Water pollution can be measured in three ways – physical, chemical and biological. Sample of water from polluted water bodies are collected and below mentioned tests are performed to determine whether water is polluted or not.
Physical tests: temperature, solid concentration etc. are measured.
Chemical test: measurement of pH, COD (chemical oxygen demand), nutrient content, presence of oil and grease, metal content etc. are measured.
Biological test: presence of animals, plants and microorganisms.
