Question

how can we define the dielectric constant? what is its physical significance?

Open in App
Solution

Dielectric constant of the medium is the ratio of the electrostatic force of interaction between two given point charges held certain distance apart in vacuum/air to the force of interaction between the same two charges held the same distance apart in the material medium. F0/Fm=ε/ε0=K……………………………………………(from Coloumb’s law)

Physical significance of dielectric constant is the resistivity to stop the current or conduct electricity through material but induces charge on it in electrostatic.
