Question

How can we say that decomposition reactions are endothermic in nature?

Open in App
Solution

In decomposition reactions bonds between atoms of different molecules/ compounds are broken. Now, energy is to be supplied to separate the bonded atoms as work has to be done against the force holding the atoms together. Therefore, breaking of bonds is always endothermic or decomposition reactions are endothermic in nature.
