Question

How can we say that rolling friction is less than sliding friction ?

Open in App
Solution

Rolling friction is smaller as the area in contact is too less as compared to in that of sliding friction.

In rolling friction, two surfaces change the contact continuously. Hence, they don’t have that much time to get interlock that is why, it is easier to move an object with wheels than sliding it without wheels, as there is too less friction between the wheels and the floor.
