Nowadays drinking water in our homes comes from public water supply rather than wells, rivers, lake etc like in older time. So there is less chance of mixing of excretory substances into this public water supply system that are underground. If this happens then there may be reasons like sewer overflow, pipe damage, septic system failure etc.
