Question

How compressed and purified air can also act as a lubricant?

Open in App
Solution

Compressed air can be injected between two surfaces to create an air gap between them. This causes the surfaces to stay at some distance from each other and thus there will not be any direct contact between the surfaces. Thus, there will not be any friction force acting directly between the surfaces.

This method is used in the popular game of air hockey and also the principle on which hovercraft works.
