Cholas rose to power in the following manner:
a. It was the the result of the strategy by Vijayalaya, who captured the Kaveri delta from the Muttaraiyar and established his control.
b. Vijayalaya consolidated his position by building the town of Thanjavur and so establsihed chola kingdom.
c. His successors later consolidated their positions, conquered neighbouring territories and expanded the influence of the kingdom.
d. For instance, the Pandyan and the Pallava territories also became part of the kingdom.
e. Later, Rajaraja I and his son Rajendra I further expanded the extent of the empire , reorganised administration and established a powerful naval force.
