After Kalpana qualified as a pilot, she took up the challenge of applying to NASA’s space shuttle program. She was hired first as a research scientist at NASA and then in 1994, she was selected by NASA for receiving training as an astronaut. The awareness that she could become an astronaut came from her desire to follow her dreams and ambitions. She had the vision that if someone pursued his/her dreams with the utmost desire nothing was impossible and that success would come her way eventually.
