Question

how did this formula come ?

"Net force in the upward direction is given as:

Upthrust Weight of the rocket = Mass × Acceleration"

ie., F = Upthrust Weight of the rocket ?

Solution

Gases burning out at the rear of the rocket change the momentum of the rocket, this results in a force that gives the rocket an upward force. From Newton’s 2nd law of motion force = mass × acceleration.

Now weight is sometimes used in place of force. Weight of a body is the gravitational force acting on it. Similarly, when the rocket experiences an upward force called upthrust; it can be said that the force is the upthrust weight.
