how diffusion and endocytosis takes place in amoeba ?
Diffusion can be defined as the movement of a substance from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration. In Amoeba, diffusion occurs across the cell surface. The substances which are present in high concentration outside the cell diffuse inside the cell through the semipermeable membrane.
Endocytosis can be defined as the process of uptake of material by engulfing it. Here, the material doesn't crosses the cell membrane, but is engulfed by the cell. In Amoeba, pseudopodia are formed by the cell which engulf the food material and take the material inside the cell in the form of a food vacuole. Inside this vacuole, food is digested and digested material is absorbed by the cytoplasm.
