How do ants smell food?

Ants have odour receptors that can smell the presence of food particles in their path. These receptors are 4-5 times more in number than any other insects. Worker ants which get food in their locality secretes some chemicals called as ‘Pheromones’ which can be smell by others and food can be trace in this way.
