how do chromium taps prevent corrosion?

Chromium form a layer of chromium oxide (Cr2O3) on the surface which prevents the further oxidation of the metal as this layer blocks the diffusion of oxygen and thereby blocks the corrosion of the taps. Thus, this passive film protects the metal underneath.
