Question

How do you check presence of oxygen in air?

Open in App
Solution

Oxygen is a supporter of combustion and this property is used to identify oxygen gas.
In the test, a splint is lit and allowed to burn for a few seconds. The splint is blown out and introduced into the chamber while the tip is still glowing. If oxygen is present then the splint re-ignites indicating that it supports combustion.
