Dear Student! Rida,

Cells when connected in a way, such that negative end of one is touching positive end of the other, are said to be in series. Such a connection provides a higher potential difference to the device to which it is connected.

On the other hand if a number of cells is connected such that, similar end of the cells are placed together in contact with a device, it is said to be connected in parallel. This is done when a powerful current is required at low voltage.

So, depending on the requirement, cells are connected in parallel abd series.
