Question

how does a collector separate the ore from gangue in the froth flotation process

Open in App
Solution

The collector such as xanthates imparts water repellant properties to mineral particles. Therefore, the mineral particles which are wetted by frother such as pine oil stick to the air bubbles and rise to the surface along with the foam whereas the gangue particles which are wetted by water settle at the bottom of the tank.
