Question

how does adrenal cortexx help in excretion ?

Open in App
Solution

Adrenal cortex involves in the production of corticosteroid hormones (glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids) and androgens. Aldosterone is a mineralocorticoid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex when there is high extracellular K+ level, low extracellular Na+ level and low blood volume. It acts on the distal convoluted tubules and collecting ducts of nephrons in the kidneys. It causes reabsorption of Na+ and water from the distal parts of the tubule. Thus, it increases the water retention and blood volume. It also increases the excretion of K+ in urine.
