how does coal and petroleum affect us
When coal and petroleum are burnt, they produce harmful green house gases as carbon dioxide (CO2 ), carbon monoxide (CO), Methane (CH4) , propane , butane gases etc.
The carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide gases are called as green house gases, which have the capacity to trap heat energy in their bonds, so that when the amount of these gases increase in atmosphere, they contain more and more amount of heat released by the earth in night time, and so they increase the temperature of the earth which causes global warming which has very harsh effect on the environment and they affects the balance of the earth.
Further, an increased level of CO-gas is injurious to health as it mixes in blood and replaces the oxygen which causes severe damage to heart, brain and nervous system and other body parts. Its raised level can also bring harm to the plants and their growth.
Similarly , the raised level of CO2 gas is harmful for the earth and environment which causes smog, and other warming effects.
So, the coal and petroleum must cause pollution to the environment when they are burnt.
Coal mining results in destruction of fertile lands and also endangers the lives of miners.
