how does the dc current gain of a transistor change ,if the width of the base region is increased ?

DC current gain of a transistor is given by
Î±_dc = (I_C/I_E)_{Vcb = constant}
Î²_dc = (I_C/I_B)_{Vce = constant}
If the width of the base region is increased collector current I_C will decrease since I_E = I_B + I_C thus, I_B will increase. Thus from above current gain definitions Î±_dc will decrease and Î²_dc will increase.
