Question

how does the dc current gain of a transistor change ,if the width of the base region is increased ?

Open in App
Solution

DC current gain of a transistor is given by

αdc = (IC/IE)Vcb = constant

βdc = (IC/IB)Vce = constant

If the width of the base region is increased collector current IC will decrease since IE = IB + IC thus, IB will increase. Thus from above current gain definitions αdc will decrease and βdc will increase.
