Curious mind!!! Good question! Let me clarify you…
Like all other plants, indoor plants also prepare food by the process of photosynthesis. A plant will not be able to perform photosynthesis if it is kept in a totally dark surounding(which is not the case of indoor plants).
Moreover, based on light requirement plants can be categorize as shade plants and light plants;
Shade plants require less amount of sunlight and thus, they are able to perform photosynthesis in rooms. Ornamental plants which used to be grown in rooms are mostly of these types of plants.
Where as light plants require high amount of light and if you grow these plants in minimum light conditions they will grow but neither remain healthy nor flourish up to their best.
