Question

how energy is transfered in food chain?

Open in App
Solution

In food chain there is a linear sequence of organisms, in which organisms belonging to lower trophic level is eaten by the organisms belonging to higher trophic level. In this way energy is transferred from one trophic level to the other.

The producers form the first trophic level as they manufacture food by the process of photosynthesis using sunlight. The primary consumers form the second trophic level, the secondary consumers form the third, and the tertiary consumers form the fourth trophic level. Flow of energy from one trophic level to other follows the law of 10% energy transfer i.e only 10% of energy gets transferred to next level.
