Question

how highly electronegative halogens(group 17 ) and highly electropositive alkali earth (group 4)metals can be separated by noble gases(group 18)??how is this possible?

Solution

Noble gases such as Xe react with flourine; a halogen to form compounds such as XeF4, XeF6 etc. But none of the noble gases react with alkali metals to form compounds. In this way, halogens which are highly electronegative can be separated from alkali metals which are highly electropositive by using noble gases.
