How is biotechnology used in making vaccines?

For making vaccines the key gene that cause infection is taken out of the infectious organism and then this organism is used as vaccine to induce immunity against a particular disease. As infectious organism does not have its key gene so it will be not able to cause infection but can induce immunity as it act as a antigen.
