Coke is obtained after the destructive distillation of coke. Destructive distillation is the process of decomposing coal by heating it at high temperatures in absence or minimum amount of oxygen.The residue obtained after the distillation is coke.
Its main uses are :-
1) It is used as a fuel.
2) It is used in heat shielding.
3) Combustion of coke produces carbon monoxide which is used to reduce metal oxide to metal.
