Question

how is sodium hydrogen carbonate formed during solvay process separated from a mixture of NH4CL and NaHCO3

Open in App
Solution

During Solvay process, sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) precipitates out of the solution.

NaCl + CO2 + NH3 + H2O → NaHCO3 + NH4Cl

The sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) that precipitates out in the above reaction is filtered out from the hot ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) solution.
