Question

How many grams of carbon dioxide is produced when 2.25gof lime is added in 125ml of 0.28M solution of sulphuric acid?

Open in App
Solution

Mass Of H2SO4 reacted = molarity x Volume x Molar mass /1000

= 0.28 x 125 x 98 /1000

= 3.43 g

CaCO3 + H2SO4 → CaSO4 + H2O + CO2

According to the equation, CaCO3 is a limiting reagent

As 100 g Of CaCO3 Reacts to give amount of CO2 44 g

So, 1 g of limestone will produce amount of CO2 = 44/100 g

Hence, 2.25g of limestone will produce CO2 = 44/100 x 2.25 g

= 0.99 g
