Question

how many isomers does a hexene have?

Open in App
Solution

Hi,

There are numbers of isomers of hexene (C6H12). Few isomers are given below having parent chain containig 6-C atoms.

  1. CH2=CH-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH3 Hex-1-ene

  2. CH3-CH=CH-CH2-CH2-CH3 Hex-2-ene

  3. CH3-CH2-CH=CH-CH2-CH3 Hex-3-ene

Try to draw the structures of other isomers by yourself.

Hint-

  • Take longest chain of 5 C-atoms containing double bonds and one branch of one C-atom.
  • Take longest chain of 4 C-atoms containing double bonds and two branches each one C-atom.

In both above hints just change the position of double bond and brach to get various isomers.

Good luck!
