The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India holds office till 65 years of age. In exceptional cases, a judge may be removed from before retirement in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Constitution. This process is known as impeachment. A judge of the Supreme Court can be removed from office on proven grounds of misbehaviour after each house of the parliament passes a resolution in the same session supported by at least two-thirds of the members present and voting.
