Solution

Plants make their food through the process of photosynthesis. In this process, some cells mostly of leaves, prepare their food in the form of carbohydrates (glucose), inside the part of cell or cell organelle called chloroplast.

In this process, light energy (sunlight) is absorbed by pigment called chlorophyll present inside chloroplast. Simultaneously absorbed molecules of water (from soil through roots) are broken down into oxygen and hydrogen molecules in presence of light through the process of photolysis in leaves .

Then, the absorbed light energy is converted into chemical energy in the form of some chemicals and this chemical energy is used to convert carbon dioxide into carbohydrates.

In this way, carbon dioxide and water are used by plants to produce food ( glucose) in presence of sunlight and chlorophyll through the process of photosynthesis .

The equation for the photosynthesis is given below:

6CO2 +12H2OChlorophyllSunlightC6H12O6 +6O2 + 6H2O
