Question

How rusting can be prevented by application of grease

Open in App
Solution

When metal basically iron comes in contact of moisture or water rust is formed .

In Atmospheric conditions rusting of iron occurs as follows:

2Fe + O 2 + H 2 O Fe(OH) 2 Fe(OH)3

Fe(OH)3 is rust which transform into a crystallised form explained as Fe2O3.H2O.

Thus, if we apply grease over the metal it do not allow the metal to come in contact with O2 and moisture containing water in air and prevent oxidation to form the rust.
