Question

how the crops are affected if the soil is acidic

Open in App
Solution

Plants require nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium etc. for their growth. These nutrients dissolve in water and reach to plants. But in acidic conditions, these nutrients are no soluble and thus could not reach to plants which hinders the growth of plants. Moreover, some toxic substances are soluble in acidic conditions and thus cause damage to plants.Micro- organisms which act on organic matter and release nitrogen which is required by plants cannot thrive in acidic soils and thus plants may get diseased due to lack of nutrients.
