Moderates and Extremist differed in their ideogies and in their ways of fighting against the colonial rule.
a. While the moderates believed that they could achieve their objectives under the guidance of the British rule and believed in constitutional methods like holding meetings, passing resolutions in getting their demands fulfilled, extremists like Bipin Chandra pal, Bal gangadhar Tilak believed in agitation, swadeshi and boycott methods and declared Swaraj as their ultimate goal.
b. While moderates believed in giving a passive role to the masses, extremists believed direct participation of the people.
