Question

how the nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide becomes nitric acid and sulphuric acid when acid rain falls

Open in App
Solution

The oxides of nitrogen and sulphur dioxide (contained in power plant smoke, factory smoke, and car exhaust) react with moisture present in air to form nitric acid and sulphuric acid respectively. The presence of these acids in rain causes it to be unusually acidic, and so it is known as acid rain.
