Question

how to confirm the presence of carbonic acid in a given food sample?

Open in App
Solution

It is difficult to test a component in food sample. However, we can test carbonic acid in pure sample. Carbonic acid is a weak acid. It remains equilibrium with water and carbon dioxide. Large amount of carbon dioxide molecules are not converted to carbonic acid. Hence we can do lime water test to test carbonic acid. If lime water turns milky we can confirm presence carbonic acid in pure sample.
