Solution

Hi Pavneet!

Ultrasonic cleaning:

Ultrasonic cleaning uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to agitate in a suitable solution used for cleaning. The object to be cleaned is placed in a chamber containing the solution. An ultrasound generating transducer, associated with the chamber produces ultrasonic waves in the solution. This creates compression waves in the solution and many microscopic bubbles (cavities) are produced in the solution. When these cavities reach a certain size, they will collapse violently and creates a jet of plasma (temperature about 5000oC) which impacts the surface of the object and cleans it. Ultrasonic cleaners are used to clean dental and surgical instruments, industrial parts and electronic equipments.

The sound produced by the loudspeaker is transverse in nature. However, sound waves can propagate as longitudinal as well as transverse wave, through a solid medium.

Cheers!!
