Question

How would you show that leaves produce starch in sunlight?

Open in App
Solution

To test that leaves produce starch in the presence of sunlight keep one leaf in dark and the other in sunlight. Then take a beaker of ethyl alcohol after 24 hours and boil the ethyl alcohol in heat. Put both the leaves first in boiled water and then in ethyl alcohol for 1 minute. Leaves will turn white on treatment with ethyl alcohol. After this add iodine solution to both leaves. The boiling water will kill the leaves and ethyl alcohol will break down the chlorophyll. On treatment with iodine only leaf in the presence of sunlight will turn blue black which demonstrates the presence of starch.
